They are also agents of change, acting as key players who have an influence in the struggle for equity and access to quality education. Wherever they might be in the world, teachers make a big impact inside and outside of the classroom. Their work continues long after the school bell has rung to signal the end of the school day.
Ms. Pamela Stith
If I accept mediocrity, I encourage mediocrity; if I expect excellence, sooner or later, I get it.
Ms. Pamela Stith, a forty-three year veteran of PC, has a Bachelor’s degree in English from California State University, Fullerton, with a minor in Speech and Theatre. She earned her Master’s degree from University of California, Los Angeles in English with an emphasis in 16th and 17th literature. On her thirtieth year at PC, the auditorium was named for her. She holds membership in CATE (California Association of Teachers of English) and has presented multiple times at their yearly convention.
Her hobbies are Shakespeare - spending one evening a month with the “Shakespeare Readers” - a group of enthusiasts who meet to explore the Bard’s works, rooting for her Angels, and acting. She played Ouiser in Steel Magnolias 2009 and Nat in Rabbit Hole in 2012 at Victoria Gardens’ Lewis Family Playhouse. She has also taught a course there –“Acting Shakespeare for Adults.”
Ms. Linda Brown
I have always felt shaking someone's hand or giving them a hug was not only special but important. It helps people realize how much they matter.
Miss Linda Brown has called Pomona Catholic her home for 28 years. Recruited from her church choir by a former teacher, Miss Brown joyfully said “YES!” to the calling of working at PC. As the attendance clerk, health aid and front office receptionist, Miss Brown has always been there to help her students with their aches and pains or even just to give a much needed hug. Before coming to PC, Miss Brown lived in upstate New York for 20 years where she was a
receptionist for a pediatrician’s office and cared for the elderly in her own home. Wanting to be closer to her family, she moved back out to Southern California and began her journey at PC.
In addition to her dedication at Pomona Catholic, Miss Brown gives of her time and talent by teaching First Communion at her parish, St. Margaret’s in Chino for 13 years. She has also been involved with Boy Scouts for 14 years. Ms. Brown also made sure PC had our own food pantry which provided food to less fortunate families during the holidays.
Miss Brown’s endless accomplishments can be seen in all of the alumnae who invite her to their weddings, baby showers and baptisms. Her connections with students and their families are genuine and last a lifetime.
