MEET OUR COUNSELORS

MRS. KELLY GUERRERO ‘04

I am a proud Pomona Catholic alumna, Class of 2004 The Dreamers. While attending Graduate School, I returned to my alma mater and wholeheartedly fell in love with the students, faculty, and school community.

As Director of Counseling, I am committed to providing students with resources that support their academic and personal growth.  It has been an honor to serve the students and families of Pomona Catholic for nearly 10 years.

I firmly believe in the power of Catholic Education and the profound character and self-worth it fosters in students. I am grateful to walk alongside our empowered students and experience the Pomona Catholic Sister & Brotherhood each day.

I began my career teaching English as a Foreign Language in the Peace Corps in Somalia, East Africa. After returning to the US, I taught English as a Second Language at Hacienda La Puente Adult Education. I later taught Computer Applications and served as Technology Mentor for classroom teachers throughout the district. I was honored to be named Los Angeles County Teacher of the Year in 1998 and to receive the California Council for Adult Education CALCO Award in 1980 and 2009. I retired from Hacienda La Puente Adult Education in 2011.

After retirement, I felt the need to continue helping students. I took the two-year UCLA program in College Admission Counseling. The last requirement of the program was a high school internship. Pomona Catholic accepted me to do my internship working with their large group of international students. After the internship, I was offered a position as International Student Counselor. It hardly seems possible, but I have been here 10 years, helping international students navigate their high school experience and helping them apply to college. I have had over 50 graduates who have gone on to success in college and to wonderful careers around the world. It is a joy and a privilege for me to share these students’ lives.
